><h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fern Andra<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fern Edna Andrews (Vernal Andrews ?) wird am 24. November 1893 (1894?\/1895?) in Watseka, Iroquois County, Illinois geboren. Ihre ersten Karriereschritte verdankt sie vermutlich dem Stiefvater, dem Seilk\u00fcnstler und Agenten Frank St. Clair. Andras Angaben zufolge ist die Mutter, Sadie St. Clair, eine in den USA bekannte Operns\u00e4ngerin. Sicher ist, dass sie die Kost\u00fcme der Tochter gen\u00e4ht hat. Bereits mit vier Jahren steht Fern Andra mit einem Drahtseilakt auf den Brettern des Vaudeville, au\u00dferdem singt und tanzt sie. 1899 tritt sie in New York als eine der ersten Kinderdarstellerinnen in dem Film &#8222;Uncle Tom&#8217;s Cabin&#8220; in der Rolle der &#8222;Little Eva&#8220; auf. Sp\u00e4ter tourt sie mit den Millman-Sisters als Seilt\u00e4nzerin durch die USA, Kanada und Europa. Bird Millman, Kopf der Truppe, war zu dieser Zeit ber\u00fchmte Zirkusartistin und Ziegfield-Star.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nach ihrer Trennung von den Millman-Sisters produziert Fern Andra die &#8222;Ragtime Revue&#8220; in London in der sie auch auftritt. N\u00e4chste Station ihrer Karriere ist die Sascha-Film-Gesellschaft in Wien. Kurze Zeit sp\u00e4ter wird sie von Leo Gaumont unter Vertrag genommen, und so f\u00fchrt ihr Weg nach Berlin. Sie nimmt zun\u00e4chst Schauspielunterricht bei Max Reinhardt. 1913 spielt sie in &#8222;Ave Maria&#8220; unter der Regie von Charles Decroix, es folgen weitere Kriegsfilme: &#8222;Auf Patrouille im Osten&#8220; und &#8222;Vermi\u00dft gemeldet&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mit dem Ausbruch des Krieges ist die franz\u00f6sische Filmgesellschaft Gaumont gezwungen, ihre Niederlassung in Deutschland zu schlie\u00dfen. Fern Andra gr\u00fcndet eine eigene Produktionsgesellschaft. In &#8222;Geheimnisvolle Gewalten&#8220; (1915) wird sie erstmals als Produzentin und Autorin genannt. Im gleichen Jahr f\u00fchrt sie in dem Film &#8222;Eine Motte flog zum Licht&#8220; erstmals Regie. 1916 er\u00f6ffnet sie in der Chausseestra\u00dfe 42 in Berlin das Fern-Andra-Filmatelier, au\u00dferdem geh\u00f6ren ihr Lichtspieltheater in M\u00fcnchen und D\u00fcsseldorf. 1917 wird Georg Bluen Gesch\u00e4ftspartner der Fern-Andra-Film-Co., der bei einigen ihrer Filme auch Regie f\u00fchrt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-default su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Mehr<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Als Produzentin, Regisseurin, Drehbuchautorin und Darstellerin wirkt Fern Andra allein in Deutschland an \u00fcber 40 Filmen mit. Ihr Repertoire an Weiblichkeitstypen ist breit gesteckt: Sie spielt die Million\u00e4rstochter, B\u00fcrgersfrau, Zirkusartistin, Ballett\u00e4nzerin, Blumenh\u00e4ndlerin, Schlangent\u00e4nzerin, K\u00f6nigin, Sklavin. Da sie als Hauptdarstellerin in all ihren Filmen das Milieu und den Frauentyp wechselt &#8211; vom armen Fischerm\u00e4dchen zur wohlhabenden B\u00fcrgersfrau, von der T\u00e4nzerin zur Gr\u00e4fin und umgekehrt, kann sie sich innerhalb eines Filmes stets neu inszenieren, indem sie den Typ und die Aufmachung wechselt. Die Rollen, die sie sich gibt, sind die einer Frau, der das Schicksal schwere Pr\u00fcfung auferlegt: In &#8222;Die Seele einer Frau&#8220; spielt sie eine Mutter, die gezwungen ist, ihr Kind wegzugeben. Vor ihrem Tod sucht sie den inzwischen ins Kloster eingetreten Sohn auf, um in seinen Armen zu sterben: &#8222;Das ganze Interesse dreht sich um die Leistung der Andra, die wieder den Erweis bringt, dass sie eine hervorragende K\u00fcnstlerin ist, die auch in diesem Film neben ihren darstellerischen Leistungen ihre sportlichen F\u00e4higkeiten in das rechte Licht zu r\u00fccken weiss.&#8220; (1) \u00dcber die Qualit\u00e4t der melodramatischen Filme l\u00e4\u00dft sich streiten, doch unangefochten ist Fern Andra neben Asta Nielsen und Henny Porten Star und Publikumsliebling des Kinos der 10er und fr\u00fchen 20er Jahre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Zahlreiche ihrer selbst verfa\u00dften Filme spielen im Zirkusmilieu: &#8222;Des Lebens ungemischte Freude&#8220;, &#8222;Um Krone und Peitsche&#8220;, &#8222;Des Lebens und der Liebe Wellen&#8220; u.a.. In der Rolle der Schulreiterin, Trapezk\u00fcnstlerin, Seilt\u00e4nzerin, Dompteurin kann Fern Andra ihr artistisches K\u00f6nnen in den Mittelpunkt r\u00fccken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sie ist eine &#8222;self-made woman&#8220; des Films, die das show-business von Kindesbeinen an gelernt hat. Die Selbstinszenierung und Selbstvermarktung &#8222;durch eine viel angefeindete Reklame, die meist von mir und nicht meiner Gesellschaft gemacht wurde&#8220; (2), geh\u00f6ren zu den wesentlichen Attributen ihres Erfolgs. Die beiden Autobiographien, die Fern Andra verfa\u00dft, berichten von sensationellen (Liebes-) abenteuern, die von der zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Presse nicht ohne Ironie kommentiert werden. (3) Was diese vom Privatleben der Fern Andra zu berichten hat, ist nicht weniger spektakul\u00e4r: Als Amerikanerin wird sie durch den Kriegseintritt der USA zur &#8222;feindlichen Ausl\u00e4nderin&#8220; und sp\u00e4ter der Spionage verd\u00e4chtigt, und nur die Heirat mit dem Baron Friedrich von und zu Weichs, der kurze Zeit sp\u00e4ter im Krieg f\u00e4llt, rettet sie -angeblich- vor dem Tod.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1919 verl\u00e4\u00dft sie die Fern-Andra-Film-Co. Georg Bluen. Aus einem Rechsstreit zwischen der Fern-Andra-Film-Vertriebsgesellschaft und der Decla, mit der Andra in der Folge zusammenarbeitet, gehen sie und die Decla als Sieger hervor. 1920 arbeitet sie unter der Regie von Robert Wiene. F\u00fcr ihre Darstellung in &#8222;Genuine&#8220; erh\u00e4lt sie Anerkennung, wenn sie auch Wienes Regiearbeit zugesprochen wird: &#8222;Fern Andra ist jetzt etwas geworden, sie hat den richtigen Regisseur gefunden.&#8220; (4)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1922 geht eine weitere Sensationsmeldung durch die Presse: Nach einem Flugzeugabsturz wird sie zusammen mit Lothar von Richthofen von der amerikanischen Zeitschrift &#8222;Variety&#8220; f\u00fcr Tod erkl\u00e4rt. Doch Fern Andra \u00fcberlebt den Absturz.1924 heiratet sie den Boxmeister Kurt Prenzel. Anfang der 20er Jahre beginnt der Stern Fern Andras in Deutschland zu sinken. Weder die Sujets noch ihr Spiel entspricht den Vorstellungen von moderner Filmdarstellung. 1928 geht sie nach England, 1930 in die USA, ohne jedoch an ihre fr\u00fcheren Erfolge ankn\u00fcpfen zu k\u00f6nnen. 1943 hat sie in &#8222;Lotus Lady&#8220; ihre letzte Rolle. Danach inszenierte sie Theaterst\u00fccke, arbeitete f\u00fcr den Rundfunk und als Managerin und Kost\u00fcmberaterin in Hollywood. 1938 heiratet sie den Brigadegeneral Sam E. Dockrell. Anfang der 50er Jahre kehrt sie mit ihrem Mann nach Deutschland zur\u00fcck, wo sie 1966 eine Rolle im Theaterst\u00fcck &#8222;Trag\u00f6die einer Diva&#8220; \u00fcbernimmt. Bis 1973 lebt sie in Wiesbaden und ist auf der Suche nach ihren Filmen.
