justify;\"><strong>Else Bassermann<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Elisabeth Sara Schiff wird am 14.1.1878 (14.1.1887?) als Tochter von Simon Schiff und Valesca von Sonnenthal in Leipzig geboren. Nach dem Lyceum besucht sie eine Theaterschule in Berlin. 1902 beginnt ihre Karriere als Schauspielerin, die sie \u00fcber Breslau und K\u00f6ln ins &#8222;Intime Theater&#8220; nach N\u00fcrnberg f\u00fchrt. Es ist in dieser Zeit das einzige deutsche Theater, das es wagt, Wedekinds &#8222;Die B\u00fcchse der Pandora&#8220; aufzuf\u00fchren, dessen aufreizende Heldin Lulu Else Schiff spielt.(1) Daraufhin holt Otto Brahm die junge Schauspielerin ans Berliner Lessingtheater. An der Seite von Albert Bassermann tritt sie u.a. in Ibsens Drama &#8222;Nora&#8220; und Schnitzlers Schauspiel &#8222;Der Ruf des Lebens&#8220; auf. Else Schiff und der elf Jahre \u00e4ltere Albert Bassermann verlieben sich. Doch die Liebe erweist sich als schwierig und Missverst\u00e4ndnisse zwischen den beiden f\u00fchren erst einmal zur Trennung. Else Schiff verl\u00e4sst noch vor Ende der Spielzeit das Lessing-Theater und geht nach Hannover. Erst nach Monaten treffen sie sich wieder, als Else Schiff das Ensemble des Lessing-Theaters f\u00fcr ein Gastspiel nach Wien begleitet. Im Dezember 1908 heiratet das Paar, nachdem ihre Tochter Carmen bereits im Februar geboren wurde. Die Bassermanns ziehen in die Schl\u00fcterstrasse nach Berlin\/Charlottenburg. Von 1908 bis 1914 ist Else Bassermann Mitglied im Ensemble von Max Reinhardt, von 1914 bis 1919 tritt sie erneut am Lessing-Theater auf. W\u00e4hrend des Ersten Weltkrieges ist sie zeitweise auch als Krankenschwester t\u00e4tig. Von 1919 bis 1932 hat Else Bassermann Engagements an zahlreichen Berliner B\u00fchnen: am Staatstheater Berlin, am Lustspielhaus, am Theater am Kurf\u00fcrstendamm, am Hein Saltenburg-Theater u.a.. Von 1924-1927 ist sie wieder Mitglied im Max-Reinhardt Theaterensemble, ab 1930 im Deutschen K\u00fcnstlertheater und dem Deutschen Theater.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-default su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Mehr<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bereits 1913 findet Else Bassermann ihren Weg zum Film. In &#8222;Gerda Gerovius&#8220; (Dr. Hans Oberl\u00e4nder, 1913), der am 31.01.1913 in Berlin uraufgef\u00fchrt wird, feiert sie ihr Deb\u00fct. Unter dem Pseudonym Hans Hennings verfasst sie zahlreiche Drehb\u00fccher f\u00fcr ihren Mann, wobei sie f\u00fcr sich h\u00e4ufig die weibliche Hauptrolle vorsieht. Von 1917 bis 1920 ist sie als Autorin f\u00fcr die Greenbaum-Film GmbH in Berlin t\u00e4tig. Ihre Drehb\u00fccher werden meist von den Regisseuren Adolf G\u00e4rtner und William Wauer inszeniert. Insgesamt 11 Drehb\u00fccher sind in der Literatur nachgewiesen, die Zahl liegt vermutlich h\u00f6her. Dass sich hinter dem Pseudonym Hans Henning Else Bassermann bzw. Else Schiff verbirgt, war zu jener Zeit anscheinend nicht bekannt. Im Fall des erfolgreichen Films &#8222;Du sollst keine anderen G\u00f6tter haben&#8220; (DE 1917) nennt die Filmpresse jedoch Else Schiff als Verfasserin.(2)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ihre Drehb\u00fccher sind &#8222;filmwirksam&#8220; und unterhaltsam: &#8222;Ein spannender, an originellen Ideen reicher Sechsakter von Hanna Hennings [sic !]. Alles, was das Publikum von einem Unterhaltungsfilm erwartet, ist geschickt im Manuskript verwendet worden und zwar mit starker Wirksamkeit, da man Gegens\u00e4tze drastisch gegen\u00fcberstellte: Hier die vornehme Gesellschaft &#8211; da Gro\u00dfstadtverbrecherwesen; hier bitterer Ernst &#8211; da frischer mitrei\u00dfender Humor.&#8220;(3) Doch ihre Drehb\u00fccher werden auch kritisiert: &#8222;F\u00fcr einen gro\u00dfen K\u00fcnstler wie Albert Bassermann&#8220;, so ein Journalist zum Film &#8222;Die Stimme&#8220; (Adolf G\u00e4rtner, 1920) &#8222;sollte man doch andere Stoffe finden, als dieses an Unm\u00f6glichkeiten reiche, von Hans Hennings verfasste Manuskript&#8230;&#8220;.(4)<br \/>\nElse Bassermann steht zwar im Schatten ihres \u00e4u\u00dferst erfolgreichen Ehemanns, doch auch ihre schauspielerische Leistung wird anerkannt. Hevorgehoben wird die Nat\u00fcrlichkeit mit der sie ihre Rolle verk\u00f6rpert: &#8222;Albert und Else Bassermann wie immer von ungezwungener Nat\u00fcrlichkeit&#8230;&#8220; (5) (in &#8222;Masken&#8220;, Willliam Wauer, 1920); &#8222;Else Bassermann als Friedel wirkte angenehm durch Nat\u00fcrlichkeit&#8230;&#8220; (6) (in &#8222;Das Werk seines Lebens&#8220;, Alfred G\u00e4rtner, 1920).<br \/>\n1922 dreht Richard Oswald im Ufa-Messter Atelier in Berlin Tempelhof den Film &#8222;Lucrezia Borgia&#8220; mit Albert Bassermann in der Hauptrolle. Else Bassermann spielt von nun an nur noch kleine Nebenrollen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Albert Bassermann tritt nicht gern ohne seine Frau auf. Vertr\u00e4ge mit Bassermann k\u00f6nnen &#8211; zum \u00c4rgernis der Intendanten und Produzenten &#8211; nicht abgeschlossen werden, ohne dass dabei eine Rolle f\u00fcr seine Frau herausspringt.(7) Ihr Gegenspiel, so Bassermann w\u00fcrde ihn zur Entfaltung seines K\u00f6nnens anregen.(8)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nach der Machtergreifung der Nazis kann Else Bassermann nicht mehr auftreten. Sie ist J\u00fcdin. Als Albert Bassermann im April 1934 ein Gastspiel in Leipzig abschlie\u00dfen will, lehnt man ein Engagement seiner Frau aus rassischen Gr\u00fcnden ab. Die Bassermanns ziehen sich in ihr Landhaus in Arosa (Schweiz) zur\u00fcck. Sie geben noch zahlreiche Gastspiele in der Schweiz, \u00d6sterreich und der Tschechoslowakei &#8211; bis zur Annektierung \u00d6sterreichs 1938. Die Bassermanns emigrieren in die USA. Dort werden sie von Warner Bros. unter Vertrag genommen und erhalten w\u00f6chentlich einen 100$ Scheck, um ihren Lebensunterhalt zu bestreiten. Die erhofften Rollen bleiben f\u00fcr Else Bassermann allerdings aus. Die Zeit in Hollywood (1939-1946) war sehr schwierig f\u00fcr das Ehepaar, da Else Bassermann im Gegensatz zu ihrem Mann keinen Vertrag bei Warner Brothers erhielt; daraufhin k\u00fcndigte auch Albert Bassermann seinen Vertrag, obwohl er sehr erfolgreich war. Else Bassermann hatte sich in Unkenntnis der englischen Sprache positiv \u00fcber das Dritte Reich ge\u00e4u\u00dfert, was ihr in Amerika gro\u00dfe Antipathien einbrachte.<br \/>\n1940 erh\u00e4lt Else Bassermann eine kleine Rolle in Hitchcocks &#8222;Foreign Correspondent&#8220;, bei dem auch ihr Mann mitspielt.(9)<br \/>\n1946 kehren die Bassermanns nach Europa zur\u00fcck. Zusammen mit ihrem Mann gibt sie ihre erste Gastvorstellung in Z\u00fcrich. 1949 tritt Else Bassermann zum ersten Mal wieder in Deutschland auf. Sie spielt die Rolle der Helene Alvig in dem Ibsen St\u00fcck: &#8222;Gespenster&#8220;. Es folgen verschieden verschiedene Gastspiele mit ihrem Ehemann in Deutschland, \u00d6sterreich, der Schweiz, den Beneluxl\u00e4ndern. 1952 stirbt Albert Bassermann auf dem Flug von New York nach Z\u00fcrich.<br \/>\nF\u00fcr die Spielzeit von 1953 bis 1955 verpflichtet Heinz Hilpert Else Bassermann f\u00fcr das Deutsches Theater G\u00f6ttingen. Vor ihrem ersten Auftritt als Marthe Schwertlein in Goethes &#8222;Faust&#8220; unternimmt Else Bassermann einen Suizidversuch in ihrer G\u00f6ttinger Wohnung. Sie leidet sehr unter dem Verlust ihres Mannes, von dem sie Zeit ihres gemeinsamen Lebens keinen Tag getrennt war.<br \/>\nIn den 50er Jahren schreibt sie mehrere Artikel f\u00fcr den Mannheimer Morgen und das Feuilleton der Baseler &#8222;Nationalzeitung&#8220;. 1957 erkrankt Else Bassermann. Sie zieht mit ihrer geistig behinderten Tochter nach Baden-Baden, wo sie &#8222;in ihrem betont burschikos-k\u00fcnstlerischen Aufzug eine auffallende Erscheinung [ist].&#8220;(10) Wie schwierig ihre finanziellen Verh\u00e4ltnisse sind, erf\u00e4hrt man in dem Briefwechsel mit dem Agenten Paul Kohner.(11) Else Bassermann mu\u00df 1958 ihre Wohnung aufgeben und zieht mit ihrer Tochter zu einer gel\u00e4hmten, mittelosen Frau, um sie zu pflegen.<br \/>\nAm 29.
