April 1881 in Prag als Tochter des B\u00e4ckermeisters Alois Lothka und seiner Frau Henriette, geborene Brabec, geboren.<br \/>\nSie besucht das \u00e4lteste deutsche Internat Jenny Kirschbaum (sp\u00e4ter Beneschowsky) in Prag und erh\u00e4lt dort eine deutsch-franz\u00f6sische Erziehung.<br \/>\n1906 wird sie von ihrem ersten Gatten, Josef Skorpil, geschieden (1). 1908-1909 studiert sie Kunst-, Kulturwissenschaften und Literatur in Prag, London und M\u00fcnchen. Danach schl\u00e4gt sie eine Laufbahn als Schaupielerin ein: Fritz Basil vom Hoftheater M\u00fcnchen bildet sie f\u00fcr die B\u00fchne aus, 1910 kommt sie zu Max Reinhardt ans Deutsche Theater in Berlin. Nebenher l\u00e4sst sie sich privat von Eduard von Winterstein ausbilden.<br \/>\nSie wechselt von Berlin ans Hoftheater nach Darmstadt und von dort aus ans Schauspielhaus nach D\u00fcsseldorf. Doch die B\u00fchnenlaufbahn scheint ihr nicht zuzusagen. Iwa Raffay widmet sich erneut den kunsthistorischen Studien und beginnt mit der Schriftstellerei.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1913 wird &#8222;Die Berliner Range&#8220; (Max Mack) ohne \u00c4nderungen der literarischen Vorlage von der Vitascope GmbH verfilmt, als Autorin des gleichnamigen Buches bleibt Iwa Raffay allerdings unerw\u00e4hnt.<br \/>\n1917 (?) geht sie mit Reinhardts Produktion &#8222;Orestie&#8220; auf Tournee in die Schweiz.<br \/>\nIm Winter 1917 wird sie wegen Entkr\u00e4ftung und Unterern\u00e4hrung in das Krankenhaus St. Norbert in Berlin-Sch\u00f6neberg eingewiesen.<br \/>\n1918 folgen Vertr\u00e4ge als Drehbuchautorin mit der Union-Film, der Deulig-Film und der Bioscope. Noch im gleichen Jahr wird ihr die erste Regie angeboten:<br \/>\n&#8222;Nur ein Schmetterling&#8220; (mit Alfred Abel in der Hauptrolle) sowie f\u00fcr drei weitere Filme, u.a. &#8222;Tausend und eine Frau&#8220; (1918) und &#8222;Die Augen von Jade&#8220; (1919).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1918 besitzt Iwa Raffay bereits ihre eigene Produktionsfirma, die Iwa Raffay-Film-Gesellschaft (2). Sie f\u00fchrt Regie in weiteren 9 Filmen, zu denen sie auch die Drehb\u00fccher verfasst. &#8222;Der Hirt von Maria Schnee&#8220; (1919), ihre vorletzte Regiearbeit, wird 1922 zum Exportschlager in die USA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-default su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Mehr<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mit der Ufa steht sie in Verhandlungen \u00fcber die fertiggestellte Operette &#8222;Die gl\u00e4sernen Schuhe&#8220; sowie dem Ausstattungsfilm &#8222;Die beiden Schwestern&#8220;.<br \/>\n1922 arbeitete sie als Drehbuchautorin f\u00fcr die Filmproduktionsfirma Irfag.<br \/>\n1929 beginnt sie mit dem Drehbuch &#8222;Das Liebesmahl der drei Kardin\u00e4le&#8220;, ein Film \u00fcber den Geigenk\u00f6nig Paganini. Sie arbeitet mehrere Jahre daran; die Iwa Raffay- Film erwirbt das Drehbuch. Im Juni 1929 beginnen die Dreharbeiten zum Film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Von 1934 bis 1935 schreibt sie f\u00fcr &#8222;Der Weltkreis&#8220;. 1938-39 bearbeitet sie f\u00fcr den Rundfunk den Text &#8222;Das Mutterlied &#8222;, der gleichnamige Film nach einer Idee von Iwa Raffay und Ticho-F\u00fcrst-Meyrink (?)kam zuvor bei Italia-Film heraus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1939 stellt Iwa Raffay einen Anfrage beim &#8222;K\u00fcnstlerdank&#8220; (3) auf Unterst\u00fctzung. Sie wird abgelehnt, weil sie als politisch unzuverl\u00e4ssig gilt und als &#8222;eine \u00fcble Begleiterscheinung einer verflossenen Systemzeit&#8220; abgestempelt (4).<br \/>\n1941 verfa\u00dft sie zwei Manuskripte f\u00fcr die Euphono-Film: &#8222;Brocken vom Gl\u00fcck&#8220; und &#8222;Die beiden Schwestern, eine Liebesgeschichte zweier T\u00e4nzerinnen, die im Alltags- und Hoftheatermilieu in Alt-Berlin um 1885 spielt. Es kommt zu Rechtsstreitigkeiten mit der Euphono-Film, so da\u00df Iwa Raffay den Stoff der Berlin-Film anbietet. &#8222;Die beiden Schwestern&#8220; wird 1943 von Erich Waschnek verfilmt. Das Drehbuch schreibt Karl Peter Gillmann nach der literarischen Vorlage von Iwa Raffay;<br \/>\nAls sie 1943 mit ihrer Sekret\u00e4rin nach Prag und Wien reisen will, wird der Antrag abgelehnt mit der Begr\u00fcndung: &#8222;&#8230;dass Frau Raffay viel Wind macht und nur das Bestreben hat, aus Berlin, das ihr wegen der Luftangriffe auf die Nerven f\u00e4llt, fortzukommen.&#8220; (5)<br \/>\nIwa Raffay verfasst das Manuskript zu dem Film &#8222;Die schwarze Robe&#8220; (R: Erich Ebermeyer, B: Fritz Peter, 1944), gedreht in den Holland-Ateliers in Amsterdam und Den Haag. Nach Ende des Krieges wird der Film von der Allierten Milit\u00e4rregierung in Deutschland verboten.<br \/>\nDas Todesdatum und -ort von Iwa Raffay sind nicht bekannt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aus: Hansch, Gabriele \/ Waz, Gerlinde.
