Juli 1948 in Bressuire (Frankreich) geboren. Mit 17 Jahren kommt sie nach Paris und ver\u00f6ffentlicht ihren ersten Roman &#8222;L&#8217;Homme facile&#8220; (1968), der aufgrund der sexuellen Thematik und derben Sprache in Frankreich f\u00fcr Minderj\u00e4hrige verboten wird. Zwischen 1969 und 1975 ver\u00f6ffentlicht sie drei Romane und das Theaterst\u00fcck &#8222;Les V\u00eatements de mer&#8220; (1971). In den 70er Jahren beginnt sie Drehb\u00fccher zu schreiben, u.a. &#8222;Catherine et compagnie&#8220; (R: Michel Boisrond, 1975), &#8222;Bilitis&#8220; (R: David Hamilton, 1976), &#8222;Police&#8220; (R: Maurice Pialat, 1985), &#8222;Zanzibar&#8220; (R: Christine Pascal, 1989). 1976 dreht sie ihren ersten Film &#8222;Une vraie jeune fille&#8220; , basierend auf ihrem Roman &#8222;Le Soupirail&#8220;, der 2001 in Deutschland unter dem Titel &#8222;Ein M\u00e4dchen&#8220; im Kowalke Verlag erschienen ist. &#8222;Une vraie jeune fille&#8220; wurde wegen der expliziten Darstellung von Sexualit\u00e4t verboten und kam erst 2000 in Frankreich in die Kinos. Es folgen weitere Filme, u.a &#8222;36 Filette&#8220; (1988)&#8220; Sale comme une ange&#8220; (1991), &#8222;Parfait amour!&#8220; (1996).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1998 erscheint ihr Film &#8222;Romance&#8220;, der in Frankreich eine heftige Debatte \u00fcber Feminismus und Pornographie ausl\u00f6st. Wie alle Filme Breillats demoliert &#8222;Romance&#8220; den Mythos der romantischen Liebe und erforscht ohne Zugest\u00e4ndnisse an herrschende Moralvorstellungen weibliche Sexualit\u00e4t.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-default su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Mehr<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8222;A ma soeur&#8220; sorgte auf der Berlinale 2001, wo er im Wettbewerb lief, ebenfalls f\u00fcr Diskussionen. Erneut setzt Breillat sich mit den Zw\u00e4ngen auseinander, die weiblicher Sexualit\u00e4t auferlegt werden.<br \/>\nDer Film erz\u00e4hlt von zwei sehr unterschiedlichen Schwestern im Teenageralter; die eine sch\u00f6n und begehrenswert (Elena), die andere dick und ungeschickt (Ana\u00efs). Beide haben nur einen Wunsch: ihre Unschuld zu verlieren. In den Phantasien der M\u00e4dchen hat dieser Akt etwas mit Gef\u00fchlen und ewiger Liebe zu tun, doch auch hier entzaubert Breillat den romantischen Diskurs, der sich um &#8222;das erste Mal&#8220; spinnt.<br \/>\n&#8222;Sex is Comedy&#8220; (2002), Breillat letzter Spielfilm, ist eine Art Making of von &#8222;A ma soeur&#8220;.
