Als der Erbonkel aus Amerika anreist, muss die 17-jährige Jesta ihm wegen eines Erbschwindels vortäuschen, ein erst 12-jähriges Mädchen zu sein. Sie fährt mit ihm auf sein Landgut und spielt weiter das kleine Mädchen, obwohl sie sich insgeheim längst in ihren Onkel verliebt hat. Als dieser Heiratsabsichten mit einer anderen jungen Dame erkennen lässt, treibt es Jesta vor Eifersucht fast ins Wasser. Schließlich sieht sich ihr Vater gezwungen, ihr wahres Alter zu enthüllen, und der Liebe zwischen Onkel und Nichte steht nichts mehr im Wege.

When the rich uncle arrives from America, the 17-year-old Jesta (Asta Nielsen) takes on the role of a 12-year-old as part of an inheritance scam. She accompanies him to his country estate, continues to act the little girl but soon falls in love with him. When Uncle announces that he is to marry another young lady, Jesta's jealousy nearly drives her "to the river". Finally, her father is forced to reveal her true age and there is nothing to stand in the way of true love between uncle and niece.
