Ene Mene / Eeny Meeny

Inhalt

Counting rhymes such as "Eeny meeny miney mo" can be found in all languages. If the finger points at somebody, he is kicked out of the game. On this election weekend Sepu¡ska, the candidate of the democrats, is the loser, but it's all a question of chance. In the little Czech town they are not yet familiar with free elections. In the lobby of the arts centre the election committee prepares the polling station. The secret ballot is important. A folding screen with flower design has been made available for official purposes. The driving force is Helena Zachová. Just as the new times began her husband Janek had a stroke,
so she has to care for him. She calls for Jana, her daughter studying in Prague, to come. Janek refuses all this totally, because he mourns for old values: the library has been closed. Jana, who pines for her professor, is utterly indifferent to the election and the result. The real loser is Helena, who tried to do everything right. The election result becomes the basis for new errors. With a few brief strokes, the film shows the tragic-comical pages of a historical process which took a special form in the Czech Republic.
