Stories
handed down by word of mouth often contain a grain of truth, and
sometimes somewhat more. Rarely are they completely imaginary. Some
great love stories preserve their core in the face of all possible
adversities such as high mountains, folcloric embroidery, lies and
the passage of time. Adiu Monde arose in the Pyrenees. In a small
village the film researches the story of Pierre and Claire: rumours,
memories and fantasies of shepherds, butchers, tourists, old women
and young people. The many versions of a universal love story, sometimes
very ‘authentic’, sometimes very ‘modern’.
