Clärenore
Stinnes, eldest daughter of industrial magnate Stinnes, was the
most successful woman racing driver in Europe when she started her
drive round the world in 1927. The German carmaking industry provided
her with finance, a standard limo, two mechanics and a lorry full
of spare parts. Swedish cameraman Carl-Axel Söderström, whom she
later married, shot this documentary for the cinema. By coincidence,
Michael Kuball came across the only surviving film print a couple
of years ago which he was able to reprocess. An interview with Clärenore
Stinnes, recorded in 1980, was added.
