In the House is a film of three autobiographical stories written and performed by teenagers in a children’s psychiatric hospital. Donna – the story of her admission to the hospital and her determination to recover. Nicholas – a young man who struggles to overcome his anger and sadness in order to reach his goal of becoming a boxer. Towana – a film about a young girl who awakens from a coma and tries to find the memories she lost. The film rebels energetically against the expectations its theme may otherwise suggest. Neither melancholy nor claustrophobic commitment are allowed to get in the way of the film’s aesthetics that Lisa Rinzler and Peter Stastny have opted for.
