Inhalt
An
elderly Jewish couple from New York, the Weintraubs, have a row
about their holiday. Ellen wants to travel to Israel at all costs,
Fritz says its too hot there, Fritz gets his way. Not that
Ellen wants anything to do with Switzerland from whose borders she
was turned back during the war. Anyway, it turns out to be the hottest
summer of the century, even hotter than in Israel, and Fritz is
taken ill with heart problems. In fact, he receives emergency treatment.
But Hayat, one of the nurses looking after the patients, is a Palestinian,
making Fritz all the more apoplectic. No way does he want to be
treated by a terrorist. For her part, Hayat thinks all
Jews are land robbers and murderers. Let the exchange of (verbal)
blows begin.
No love story with an obligatory happy end, Pastry, Pain & Politics
is a comedy with bite. It has won many awards in Switzerland.
