Sand
Bride Salla´s quiet life turns to confusion when Rui appears
out of the past. They relive the love story they had fifty years
ago at a small missionary station in South-West Africa. The passion
is still the same but time has left scars on their faces and hearts...
And a secret yet to be discovered. Mervi, Salla´s grandchild,
doesn´t make it easier for her. All three head up to North
Lappland, driving an old american Car that Mervi had been repairing
with her friend Lauri. Sand Bride is the story of a life wasted.
It is also the story of a future filled with love and hope. It rebels
against a taboo: despide their age, both Salla and Rui have a right
to love and to be loved. "The road is a metaphor for life.
When our travellers stop for a while they face painful memories
and craving desires. Salla is a prisoner of her past. She has buried
her feelings of love long ago. Rui escapes the future and drowns
his misery into roaming the seas. Mervi lives a young girl´s
present-day while Lauri remains stagnant. They all feel homeless.
They all want to go home."(Pia Tikka)
