Inhalt
Syd
works at the celebrated photography magazine Fame, shares a New
York flat with her boyfriend and leads a comfortable, if not particularly
exciting, life. One evening, there is a leak in the ceiling and
when she goes to investigate, she discovers a world totally new
to her and the enchanting Lucy Berliner. A once celebrated photographer,
Lucy now lives with her German girlfriend Greta, a former actress
and current heroin addict. Falling in with her fast-living friends,
Syd becomes at once a catalyst in the group’s passions and decadence.
When Syd suggests to her boss that Lucy is commissioned to do a
set of ‘comeback’ photographs, the lines between life and art become
blurred even more as Syd’s role as editor develops into that of
a lover, confidante and model. „Originally conceived as a look at
heroin chic, the film becomes a compelling study of the nature of
human desire, ambition and the uncertain rewards of public esteem“
(Stephen Palmer). High Art won the Prize for Best Sreenplay at the
1998 Sundance Festival.
