Eevi
has been living in the flat of her sister Ami, without plans to
move into a place of her own. Totally fed up with the situation,
Ami finally throws her sister out and her friend Helena moves in.
Eevi gets furious, steals Ami’s car and money – and before she leaves,
sets the place on fire. Driving aimlessly, Eevi picks up a hitch-hiker
called Jusu. She promises to give him a ride to wherever he is going.
Reluctantly, Jusu agrees. Unfortunately for him, he rejects Eevi’s
advances ... „I’ve often wanted to be the shadow of my beloved,
or his dog. I’ve often wished that I could become invisible so that
I could follow him all over the place. And I’ve felt irrational
rage, because I know that all that is impossible. This film portrays
the absurd possessiveness and the primitive free will that I know
resides in all of us. We can all remember moments when we’d be ready
to do just about anything to make things go our way. But we don’t
do that, because we still have the ability to feel compassion and
respect for the free will of other human beings, our fellow creatures.
The protagonist of my film lacks this ability, which is why she
interests me“ (Auli Mantila). In 1995 Auli Mantila’s film Jehu was
screened at the femme totale festival.
